Sunday is the anniversary of the shooting of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. I mention this as the Felixstowe Book Festival this weekend commemorates the hundred year anniversary of the start of World War I. Authors will be talking about books set in this time and there will be poetry and an event at the Landmark Fort at Felixstowe all to remind us of the terrible events that started in 1914.
Last year my book of the year was The Assassination of the Archduke by Greg King and Sue Woolmans. Please take time to read or to re-read my review of this marvellously moving book. The link is here. I knew about the shooting but knew nothing of the events leading up to it or the tragic story of the lives of the orphaned children left behind.
Do read. Wonderful.
I also link in this fascinating How it Happened from the Daily Telegraph today.
