It looks as if I have found yet another detective series to get stuck into and before anyone starts wailing and gnashing their teeth and saying there should be a credit card warning on my blog etc etc can I just say, get a grip and show a little self restraint.....or not.
This series was recommended to me somewhere on my blog in a comment posted by one of you lovely visitors out there. I shall have to exercise the little grey cells and find out who recommended the Lydmouth Series by Andrew Taylor to me. I am just a third way through the first one, An Air that Kills. These books are set in Lydmouth in Cambridgeshire, in the 1950's and it is clear from the first few chapters that we are in the dreary drab atmosphere of these times when, as the blurb puts it 'surface respectability masked nasty social and sexual undercurrents'. Oo-er I thought, this sounds interesting. There appear to be another six in the series, so by the time I have read the rest of the Janeaway books, carried on with Lord Peter Wimsey, started Margery Allingham and finished with my re-reading of the entire Ngaio Marsh oeuvre, it seems as if 2007 will be The Year of the Detective Mark 2.
Of course, I am hoping that it will not be long before the next Simon Serrailer is with us, and then of course, Donna Leon will do another Venice based book? She will, won't she.....?
It is all too much to bear.
