The panic is in abeyance. The computer is about to be sent off into the world this week and I hope and pray it will make its way home safely. In the meantime, a combination of luck and generosity at the weekend means I now have another laptop.
First up, I won £55 on the Lottery on Saturday evening. The same day I received a letter from my electricity supplier telling me they were refunding £100 into my account as I had a lot of credit. My mother always gives me a cheque for Christmas as she says she can't be bothered to shop, she is too old (94) and thinks money would be more useful to me (I am not arguing). When she heard about my computer disaster the lovely woman gave me a bit more and so I found I had a bit of money sloshing around. I, therefore, went straight to the computer superstore on the way home and picked up a cheap laptop for £350. It will be good to have it as a back up in case of future disaster but I would not want to use it all the time. It is like owning a bike after a Rolls Royce but it does not matter - it works.
I then spent a happy hour or two booting it up, setting my broadband connection on it and loading an anti-virus package. Now I am back on line, can email and blog once more. HOORAY!!!
However, downside is I have had to start recreating my Open University assignment as I cannot guarantee my previous computer will be back safely with me before the deadline. Oh and my bathroom radiator has conked out as well and needs repairing. So I am having a good time one and all...but I am back.
The picture above is not me, I hasten to add. I wish....
