Well, next series I really think that the voting system needs to be sorted. Once again, we have the nice but dreadful dancer Kate Garroway getting through with her two left feet, and Kenny Flat Footed Logan surviving merely because he danced to Scotland the Brave and harnessed the vote north of the border quite deliberately. These two celebrities are the worst dancers in the show and yet they remain because of their 'popularity' with the public. So in the dance off we had Penny Lancaster and Ian yet again, and Matt and Flavia, neither of whom should have been there, and we lost the delightful Ian much to my own personal sorrow.
The slanted voting by the public is actively encouraged by the trailer after the show is finished with pictures of the dancers training, all the phone numbers displayed and a voice urging you to 'vote for your favourites' with the emphasis on favourites, not on who is the best dancer. Craig, one of the judges, gets very hot under the collar about this and keeps saying this is a dance contest NOT a popularity contest and Claudia on Strictly Come Dancing Two nightly empahsises that the public chooses and they are entitled to choose who they want. Yes they are, but it is now getting really silly. At this rate we are going to end up with Kenny Logan in the final which will make a mockery of the entire show.
I well remember the first series final won by Natasha Kaplinski and Brendon and they were up against a young actor from Eastenders, aged 18, whose dancing was appalling but who got through simply because of the popular vote, and it was quite embarrassing.
Good news this week though was that John Barnes did a simply stunning salsa and got a 10.
Bad news is, the ghastly Brendon is still there....
