Well, a glorious hot sunny day such as we have not have for weeks and it is lovely sitting here with all the windows open, looking at my vase of yellow and white lilies in my bay window, listening to the birds twittering and feeling all rural, though where I live is anything but.
I have now finished my contract and embark on a month of non-commuting or maybe more, if I don't get another job, lovely thought but as budget will not allow this, fingers crossed I have something lined up soon. In the meantime I intend to relish and relax. Had a good last day at the office, lots of complimentary things said to me, lots of hugs and 'I'm sorry you are going' type comments which was very heartwarming, a good lunch with seven other PA's, a charming card from my now ex-boss and then to cap it all a farewell card and a lovely wodge of book tokens. My colleague and friend who sat next to me and who, apart from being an excellent PA and photographer, also makes jewelery, presented me with three little matching Swarovoski crystal pendents to match some ear-rings I had commissioned earlier in the year and I came home feeling quite tearful and very grateful to have had such a happy working year. After the experience of my last job working for the Boss from Hell at the Firm from Hell and being ill and having my self confidence shattered and wrecked, to find myself actually enjoying work again has been a great experience and I am thankful that I was lucky enough to end up where I did.
So sad to go but the thought that I do not have to get up early on Monday morning, calloo callay o frabjous day....
I am just going to ramble a bit today before getting down to writing about my latest reading. I have been very lucky this week with books arriving on my doorstep, from Amazon (bought by me) and from publishers (sent to me) and you can see form these photos just what I mean by lucky. A friend who I met earlier in the week presented me with a pile of Angela Thirkell novels; another two, not pictured, arrived in today's post so I have an embarrassment of riches at the moment and I have a feeling that the cleaning out of cupboards etc may be delayed a day or two.
You will also see that I have a treat to listen to with this CD, have already played the first one in the collection and it is beautiful, and then when I have over dosed on literature and culture, I can watch Cagney and Lacey, a programme I was totally devoted to in the 80s and 90s. Spotted this set on sale last week and could not resist.
As my season ticket does not expire until Tuesday of next week, may hie myself off to the City and go and see Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day which film will never make Colchester, and it is on at a cinema in Leicester Square which just happens to be about five minutes walk from Waterstones in Piccadilly and I have these lovely tokens to spend. I see a happy day ahead of me.
OK kettle on now I think and a sofa recline coming up, or should that be down?
