You will notice that the titles of my posts show a distressing lack of originality at the moment. Wouldn't be surprised if we have Monday Ramblings as well at this rate.
Have had a good day. Coffee with my good friend Rosemary this morning and chat and gossip and much laughter as always. Both of us listened to a programme all about a radio comedy show of long ago, The Navy Lark, which brought back so many memories and reduced us to tears of laughter. Not sure if anybody out there in Blogland will remember this, but oh, it was wonderful. Totally incompetent team on a British Navy ship with directions from Lesley Phillips, playing a dim lieutenant 'left hand down a bit' and when this inevitably led to disaster, shriek of 'Everybody down' as the ship then demolished a jetty, or a pier or both. Sounds unfunny I know, but take my word for it, it was funny then and it was just as funny this morning.
Then lunch, the papers and an hour at the laptop writing a piece on short stories which will be on another blog later on in the week. Sent off a couple of book reviews. Long phone chat with Daughter Mark One. Played a game or two, started reading a Veronica Stallwood Kate Ivory book and promptly fell asleep. Hasten to add this was no reflection on the book, I just keeled over. After all, you can see I had had an exhausting morning...
Then watched England trounce South Africa again in a one day international. Let me repeat that ...watched England trounce South Africa again in a one day international. Not sure how long this winning streak is going to last but oh it is such fun to see Flintoff tonking fours and sixes all over the park and the crowd jumping up and down and beaming with delight.
Have just watched a prom concert recorded this afternoon featuring the Chinese pianist Lang Lang and an astonishing 9 year old prodigy, dubbed 'the miniature Mozart' , Michael Yu play Schubert which left me with my mouth open in total amazement and am now listening to this evening's Prom, the Verdi Requiem. As I know this piece off by heart, I am singing along with it as I write this, solos and all, and I daresay my neighbour is thoroughly enjoying my top C...
I mentioned the lovely ear rings and pendent made for me by my colleague and friend Sam and am posting a picture of them here, as I think they are lovely and I would like you all to see them.
So Monday tomorrow and I DON'T HAVE TO SET THE ALARM
Let joy be unconfined
