Big debates, well in the tabloids anyway, about 2010 and how one pronounces it - is it twenty ten or two thousand and ten or two zero one zero? Many schools of thought apparently. Ah well keeps the Mirror and the Sun happy for a while.
Whatever you choose to call it, it is always an exciting time starting off a new year. It is like turning over a page in an exercise book and there is the clean empty space waiting for you to write on it what you will. It is a bit silly really - you go to bed on 31 December and wake up on 1 January and really nothing has changed and you are still the same person you were twelve hours earlier but somehow there is a feeling of a fresh start. In 2010 I have a lot to look forward to with the arrival of my first grandchild and embarking on my first full year of retirement, though having managed to survive nine months so far with no worries, being at home and doing what I like when I like seems to me a good way to live and cannot imagine that this feeling of relaxation and freedom will ever go away.
This is my current pile of books waiting my attention. Some I have had for a while and my apologies to the various authors/publishers who have sent them to me and will try and get to them as soon as possible, and a few have arrived in the last few days so Twenty Ten is getting off to a good start and is looking promising.
As I am now in full nose flow mode with a dreadful cold (a present from my daughter) and feeling a bit sorry for myself, I will be back on New Year's Day when I hope to feel better and will be doing my usual watch of the New Year's Day concert from Vienna which never fails to lift my spirit and make me feel that life is good. The fact that I drink good coffee and eat apple strudel while watching might just have something to do with the feeling of enjoyment as well.......
