Melting here today - woke up early and decided to get up and get on with whatever chores or errands I had to do today while it was cool. This I did and was safely back indoors by about 10 am, had a late breakfast and read of the paper, tidied up the kitchen and bathroom and sat back knowing that I did not have to do a single thing for the rest of the day except watch Wimbledon.
And I did and lots of really good matches on today. Djokovic put out Leyton Hewitt who, try though I might and I know he is a good guy, I cannot warm to. I know you have to be aggressive to be a good player but I find it off putting sometimes and I do in Hewitt with his distorted face and fist pumping (he is not the only one of course). He is followed around the world by a group of supporters, dressed in virulent yellow t-shirts, who chant, yell and scream all the time 'Come on Leyton, come on
Leyton' clapping their hands and generally behaving in a manner that would cause me acute irritation if I was unlucky enough to be sitting next to them. Rather like the Barmy Army who follow the English cricket team around. Sure they all enjoy themselves hugely but not universally loved and from this pic seems the stewards are having word with them. Not sure how Leyton feels about these supporters, he never seems to acknowledge them but he might buy them the odd beer or two, who knows? Thank goodness they will disappear now as well.
Murray came through in straight sets - he is playing well and with ease and style and a complete contrast to a couple of weeks ago when he was losing left, right and centre and slouching around the court like Kevin the Teenager. His body language was appalling and I blathered on to anybody who was kind enough to listen to my ramblings, that he needed to perk himself up a bit and stop going into a massive sulk. Well, it seems his team had a go at him as well about this and he is now bright and breezy, well as bright and breezy as he ever is. His demeanor on court reminds me of how McEnroe used to be - even when he won and he made a great shot, he always looked pained and fed up and I used to think, if you really hate it as much as you seem to then bog off and do something else. Now of course he is a commentator and is witty, articulate and enormous fun - pity he didn't behave like that when he played.
Williams sisters sail through like Royalty - Venus arrived ten minutes late for her match and kept everyone waiting and was booed on court and the applause when she left was tepid to say the least. Serena beat the Shrieking Shack, Maria Sharapova so at least we don't have to listen to her ghastly yells any more, not that I do anyway, I switched over when they appeared and if I do have to watch a match featuring either of these ladies I watch with the mute button on.
Note: have just done an image search on Ms Sharapova and up comes endless pics of her pouting, posing and lolling and trying to look sexy, but very few of her actually playing tennis. Gosh, there's a surprise.
Tomorrow I am taking a friend to Clacton, she has a hospital appointment so am driving here there but the timing of the visit means will be there at mid-day and as it is going to be another scorcher not looking forward to that particularly. I prefer to be out of the heat these days. Then on Wednesday I am going up to London - oh my goodness in all that heat, I must be mad.
Ok random tennis rambles over for another day and am going to go to bed nice and early in my nice cool bedroom with a nice cup of tea and book and just chill.........
