A public holiday here in the UK today which I had totally forgotten about now that I no longer mark these days in my diary as an escape from work and the commute, but I remembered it when I ended up in the DIY store today to purchase my paint for the living room - at last I have made my final choice - and realised the place was teeming. Always is on a Bank Holiday.
I intend to try and get my painting done in the next few days. I have not been feeling mentally and physically up to doing it over the last couple of weeks, but perking up now and am getting tired of looking at the walls covered in patches from tester pots. So tomorrow is the day to start if my back, which has twanged again today, is up to it. Oh dear the joys of getting older....
Well one of the joys was on display yesterday when I went up to London to a party to celebrate Florence's arrival. I drew up outside the house just as the in-laws arrived - they laden down with salads, and bowls and plates and I laden down with trifle, tirasimu and plates and we swung into action helping get things ready.
A lovely lovely party with friends and relatives aplenty and throughout it all Florence beamed and smiled and enchanted everyone. She put up with being passed a round like a parcel to everyone who wanted a cuddle with great equanimity until she had had enough when she let out a yell and her father took her in the garden and calmed her down.
I made sure I took photos to send off to Kathryn in Australia and can also tell you that I have now booked my flights - I am going out next February and am staying for a month. I am raiding my piggy bank to pay for this holiday and am determined that it is going to be wonderful. Kathryn and I are planning to go to the Great Barrier Reef while I am there and, as it will be my birthday shortly after I arrive, Kathryn is taking me to the Sydney Opera House to see the Barber of Seville. How about that for a present? I am soooo excited and will now be researching things to do and see when I get to Australia. At last I am going back after trying to get there for so many years and I cannot wait to see the country again.
Now off to rest my back which is still twanging a bit and not very comfortable, so au reservoir everyone but before I go just to mention that the Rodgers and Hammerstein Prom was great and I have posted about it over on Random Music so do nip over and have a look. Have linked to a video of the encore as well.
