So I go log on my computer to new latop. Sorry it is 'not compatible'. Ok it is a bit old but here we go again. So off to PC World where they see me coming and put the kettle on - Hello how are you today...
Decided to get another HP printer as I have an HP laptop. Find me a nice one, not too expensive. Can these cartridges be used ask I as I have only just bought them before computer crash. Young man looks at me and opens his mouth and I shriek at him 'If you say these are not compatible I will not be responsible for my actions. He laughed, backed off ten feet and hit behind the counter 'Sorry madam they are not compatible...'
Right now home, new printer, totally exhausted, having a late lunch then a nap then gather strength to load it all up.
Pray for me.....
UPDATE:
Guess what? Seems new printer is not compatible either. By this stage I am at screaming point so piled new laptop and printer into car and back to PC World where I was greeted like an old friend. New laptop and new printer says I so why aren't they compatible? They were not sure. OK you sort it out and dump everything on a desk. Young man, Tom, comes out. Checks it out Oh I see what the problem is. You have Windows 8 and the disk for the printer only has Windows 7 on. OK so why sell a printer without the right drivers on? Well Windows 8 is so new and this must be one of the old batch. Qualing before my beady eye he said no worries; went online and downloaded the drivers for Windows 8 and set it all up. I made him check it out and print off a few pages before I would agree all was well.
Then he spots loads of weird pop ups on my screen and says you have loads of viruses. How come say I, only a few days old and it has anti-virus on it. He then checked this anti-virus which was one sent to me by Amazon for testing and says this one only covers 25% of your system!!!! So off he goes, gets a Norton at my request, loads it on, uninstall the duff one, clean up the computer and there we are.
So another £100 has been spent today and by the time I take in the time, effort, petrol costs, wear and tear on my nerves, plus two computers, printer and printer cartridges and Microsoft Office I reckon I have spent about £1000. Just as well I had transferred dosh across for my upcoming trip to Oz so just a bit less to spend...
However, as my friend Rosemary pointed out to me - just think if all this had happened just before you were going, at least now all is sorted.
I am going to be Pollyanna for the rest of the day and be 'glad'. Yeh, right...
In London tomorrow, totally knackered now so am more or less giving up on book reviewing this week and hope to be back up and running by weekend
