Such huge fuss made about Blackpool that it always seems a tad quiet the following week. Not that I am complaining. No fish and chips, no lights, no going on about the Home of Ballroom, just good dancing, no stupid VTs of donkey rides on the beach, just training ones and we have reached the nitty gritty of the competition now.
The 'fixing' brouhaha of last week is still casting a shadow over it all. I feel sorry for Peter. On the Guardian blog I seem to be the only one sticking up for him and all the fuss over him not being knocked out will result in a backlash against him when it is not really his fault. I have watched the show since series one and every year there is a Disgusted Fan from Huddersfield moment who says they will never watch again. But they do...
OK off we go with my profound thoughts on the show. Kellie and Kevin - the cheeky chappy Kevin from Grimsby persona is a little less enchanting that when he first appeared on the show and I find his partnership with Kellie competent but uninspiring. The wardrobe department once more dressed her in left overs from last week. Stunningly underwhelmed by their dance.
Katie and Anton - Argentine Tango, Anton's first and it showed. He looked tense and not relaxed at all. Katie waved her legs about and tried to do sexy and failed miserably. However, loads of comments on other forums thought she was good so I just have to put my feeling down to my overwhelming dislike of her simply dire hairtossingheadgirlsmarmvivacioustwinkling persona.
Georgie and Joe Varney - pasa doble. I think she was ok but I was so riveted by the sight of Joe Varney in leather trousers that I could barely concentrate. Watched it on catch up later and forced myself to watch her.
Peter and Jeanette - an American smooth set in a cake shop. Words fail so I am saying nothing.
Anita and Gleb - again had to watch on catch up for same reason as given above re Georgie and Joe Varney. Gleb is just beautiful. End of discussion. Anita, I love but felt this dance was a bit meh. Lots of supposedly sexy moves which were not and she looked like she was dressed in a sheet that had got chopped in half.
Helen and Aljaz. It is SO difficult to watch the Sleb when there are dancers like Aljaz around. However, much though I find Helen difficult to warm to, have to admit that the Viennese waltz was Gawjus Darling and the dress was lovely. Just wish she did not appear so incredibly needy all the time.
Aliona and Jay - the transformation in Jay from curly messy long hair and gormless boy to short haired elegantly coiffed super dancer has been one of the joys of this year. Their tango was simply marvellous and I loved every minute of it.
Am writing this after watching the results show. As I knew last night that Peter had gone I did not watch the dance off but switched off early particularly as Il Divo were on who are so vilely cheesy they make me ill. We have had Bocelli on a few weeks ago and now all we need to complete the roster of ghastly so called singers is for them to wheel out Alfie Boe or Russell Watson or, worst of all, Katherine Jenkin. She has just had a baby so perhaps she will be busy for a few more weeks. One can live in hope. If there is one person who can make me like Katie D, in contrast only you understand, it is the Warbling Welsh Barbie with her dark roots and boobs hanging out of her dress who is labouring under the illusion that (1) she is an opera singer and (2) that she can actually sing. She is wrong on both counts.
I digress.
OK the hair do on Tess last night looked as if she had been dragged through a wind tunnel backwards and had been combed to oblivion and then had a can of Elnett slathered over it. Tonight, by which of course I mean two hours later, her hair had been combed back off her face by some poor person in the make up department who had to make it look different from Last Night. She/he did not quite manage it.
Don't have to bother faffing about with Claud's hair as it always looks a mess and she always has about half a ton of black eyeliner on and looks like that all the time so no worries there. Both wore ghastly dresses.
Tess still annoying. No change there. BUT and I hate to say this, Claudia is beginning to overdo the faux weird what do I know bit and is starting to grate. At the moment is is just a bijou frictionette but it is there and I am not the only one to comment on this. What can we do if BOTH Tess and Claude start to irritate? Oh well will worry about that next year.
Hoping Katie goes next week. Please dear Lord. Please
I want to see Jay, Anita and Georgina through to the final. Much though I adore Aljaz not sure I can take the kewpie doll much more. Wonder what she will be like doing an Argentine tango?
Keeeeep dancing.
