Much better show this week now they have got all the Halloween crap out the way. I watched tonight to the accompaniment, not of the Dave Arch singers, but of crashing and banging and flashing outside which was so loud I honestly thought somebody had let off something they should not have done. I live not far from the Colchester barracks and I really began to wonder if somebody had slipped
into the arsenal and set something off. Anyway, now it is later and it is all quiet but as it was November 4th tonight and tomorrow is November 5th (yes maths was my best subject at school) they will be back tomorrow night as well.
Right the dancing.
In no particular order:
Ruth and Anton were doing a paso doble. There has been a lot of discussion on the Guardian forum about Anton, he seems to be a Marmite person and some think he does not treat his partners with respect, but in all fairness he is nearly always lumbered with those who simply cannot dance. I mean just think Widdicombe and Nancy Delolioloioo to name but two. It was clear that Ruth was not going to be able to turn in a fiery paso so they went for the humour. I was hysterical with laughter by the end and the audience too so am pretty sure they will get through. They have to because if they are in the Dance Off the judges will have them out. I am very fond of Ruth she seems such a nice woman.
Susan and Kevin - great jive. Fun and happy and joyous and yes I use that word every week but she just IS. I sat there beaming all the way through it and for some time afterwards. When they came over to the judges Tess did her usual frantic clutching of Susan OOOOH she gushes you were jiving your little heart out there.
pass the sick bag
Alexandra and Gorka - cha cha cha which I thought was terrific. Not my favourite dance but she did a fantastic job. She just gets onto the dance floor and is so in the moment and the mood. Another Marmite person though who seems to split opinion. I rather like her though I can understand why others think she is totally over the top. Gorka looks somewhat intimidated by her.
Mollie and AJ - foxtrot. Sweet. Nice, Can say nothing else as he really makes my skin crawl
Aljaz and Gemma - Aljaz, sure I keep spelling his name wrong, wore a wonderful pink shirt. That is all I have to say about this dance
Debbie and Giovanni - I adore their relationship. When he was first on the show he seemed to be cast as the Italian Stallion and being involved with one of his partners probably helped to fuel that idea of him, but this year he seems a changed man. Genuinely delighted to have Debbie or Debbuh as he calls her, he is respectful of her and it is great to see. Their tango had Craig bowing down in front of her and they received four tens. She looked genuinely amazed and happy and Giovanni just get beaming and grinning and shaking and hugging her. Yes I know she has had training but I do not care. I love her and I would love to see her win I really would.
Joe and Katya did a fun Charleston but though I liked it thought it was a bit twee. They were dressed up as clockwork soldiers and looked like something out of a Ruritanian operetta. I do like Katya though and her choreography is excellent.
Right who is left?
Davood and Nadia doing a foxtrot American Smooth. Simply gawjus. Smooth, elegant, gliding over the floor. Nadia had the most beautiful dress on, had me drooling, and Davood looked very smart as well. Loved it. Reckon he will get through.
Aston and Jeanette did a Viennese waltz to a sort of Michael Jackson thingy set in a barber shop. I thought it was utterly utterly awful. I mean what happened to a glide, a waltz, elegance, gracefulness? just all wrong.
Frock watch: Darcy elegant in black, Shirley in pink with a lace doily round her neck, Tess channeling her inner Sandy from Grease in a trouser suit thingy and Claude ok in a black lace thingy. I was sitting at home in pjs and nightie thingy looking like the Wrath of God and thoroughly enjoying it all.
So a good day. Internet problems all sorted now, phone working, finished with the dentist and, apropos of nothing, to see a Serbian tennis qualifier knock out the misery that is John Isner who, along with Sam Querry and Cilic, has the personality of a newt, and get to the final in Paris this afternoon was as joyous as watching Susan dance. In tears at the end.Him not me. He is playing another misery Jack Sock in the final tomorrow and I know who I shall be cheering. When I watch some of these players I say what I used to say every time McEnroe threw a hissy fit on court, if you hate it that much sod off and do something else.
It is now nearly 10 pm and I shall log on and find out who is in the bottom two and who goes. I suspect it will be between Gemma and Mollie this week but it is that time in the show when we have a Shock Elimination and it could be somebody we were not expecting. We shall see.
Keeeeeep dancing!
